Embracer promises new shipments of Deus Ex and Thief and other “dormant” licenses

Embracer Group announced the purchase of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal in its new series of acquisitions. Does that mean new saga games like Deus Ex, Thief or Legacy of Kain?

Well, everything seems to point to yes, because part of the deal includes some IPs and more than 50 games from the catalogue; That of course says a lot to the fans of this franchise.

Basically, Embracer’s future plans are that of new installments of popular franchises like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain; plus many original IPs.

The deal is set to close around July and September of this year, 2022, but after that, Embracer Group’s plans go even further.

Concretely, and according to the company, it seems that its plans are to create “new shipments and original IPs” of the three studies mentioned above.

The sagas they are made with along with “other original franchises” not mentioned will help you create them. Although some like Life Is Strange, Outriders or Just Cause are not included in this deal.

It’s clear that they see this as “an opportunity to invest in all of these franchises” that have been dormant for so many years, according to Embracer Group.

They don’t know any further details at the moment, but if they’re going to develop games related to these sagas, it’s clear that they’ll keep their (now) studios pretty busy for a while.

Both Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal are working on “multiple” AAA projects. The future of the first continues with the recently announced new Tomb Raider in Unreal Engine 5.

At the same time, however, they will also be developing the Perfect Dark reboot together with The Initiative, as confirmed by the Xbox Game Studios team themselves.

Meanwhile, Eidos Montreal has projects on the horizon that include “re-releases of beloved sagas and original IPs.” After all, they have already said that they are working on several projects and all in Unreal Engine 5.

The studio’s “most popular sagas” are Deus Ex, Thief, and now Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. This has already made many think of sequels or new games based on it.

These AAA games won’t be released – if at all – for at least 2 years if all goes well. Although Square Enix Montreal is expected to see a mobile premiere sometime this year 2022.

So what are the reasons Square Enix sold its western studios? Everything points to a profitability that they no longer achieved.

There are those who, after taking this step, are already pointing to a large purchase by the studio itself because it would position them favorably.
